Your resting heart rate tells you how much works your heart has to do when you're resting (this is a very rough approximation, it is of course not the most accurate assessment by any means). When your heart rate is lower if you're resting it's possibly because you are used to participating in very physically demanding activities that put a lot of pressure on the heart to perform and beat faster. Because of this, it gets used to being constantly or occasionally put under pressure. That is why, when you're resting, it doesn't need to work as much, because it can produce the same amount of needed blood flow with less heart beats.  ...
